Today’s message is how not to quit! Even when you really want to.

So I knew this day would come when I started this blog I was super excited and totally committed. Yet in week 3 I find myself at a roadblock. I am asking myself what is next? In my head when I started this process I hoped to instantly connect with people and share a message of hope and love. Now that i am in week 3 (yes don’t laugh at me) and I am growing slowly I find myself questioning the why behind this journey. Just like most people I have valid reasons why I could stop blogging; I’m currently in graduate school its so much work I don’t have time to write weekly, writing is already hard for me why am doing this? If I stopped how many people would notice because it only matters to me right now. In my head there is a battle going  and my choices are stay and fight or quit. Unfortunately I have been here before I  start a new project and quit if I feel less than inspired to finish. When this happens I remind myself that in  life I am the  the captain of my ship and at the end of the day it’s up to me ( with God’s direction) to get the destination. I have to decide to be committed reguardless of my feelings. So what do you did if you find yourself in this same position?

How not to quit!

  • You must set your course. (Decide what you want to do and go for it)
  • Remember feelings will lead you away from what you really want don’t listen to them!
  • Distractions happen to everyone  it’s how you handle them that matters.
  • When you quit on yourself it hurts the only person you can never get away from you.
  • Find an in your face accountability partner that will not let you quit on yourself.
  • Talk to yourself!!!!! Tell yourself how to feel don’t let your feeling determine your faith or your destination.

Now that I have gotten past the generic advice let me give a real life story. My best friend LaKesha Edwards is a great example of this concept. Last year when she was in graduate school she was also pregnant at the time with her 3rd child. At the time of her pregnancy she was just starting a new job,  married with 2 school age children and her palate was full of things to do.  In the delivery room she was writing and editing a paper that was due her neuropsychology class the upcoming week. The paper was due on Tuesday she worked on Friday had the baby on Sunday and still turned in her paper before time. That’s  determination out the wazooo!!!! I was telling her at the time why don’t you let your professor know surely giving birth surely this is a reason to turn in a project late. To her this was not acceptable.  In her book if you commit to doing something you finish your assignment and you exceed expectations. Not only did she finish school with a newborn in one hand psychology book in the other she finished with 4.0 GPA. This among other reasons is why I admire her strength.

At the end of the day it will always be up to you to finish strong or make excuses. What will you do Captain? I say don’t quit finish strong!

Until next time,

Stay Gorgeous!

Product Review Revlon Lash Potion Mascara

Product Review Revlon Lash Potion Mascara

So I’m in love! I am consistently falling in and out of love with products but I am truly in love with this mascara. The best part of working in cosmetics (i worked for MAC and Clinique for a total 6 years) is trying all the products. I used a ton of mascaras, expensive  ones ($30 plus), cheap ones (under $5), and things in the middle and as a result I am a self-proclaimed mascara junkie. I am the constant search for the right mascara and I love the idea of layering a mascara for a full luscious look and Revlon’s Lash Potion Delivers!

Why is this product great?

  • Lash Potion Lengthens, thickens, and curves
  • The formula is very wet
  • The brush is full kick clumps to the curb.
  • It stays on all day and all night because it’s waterproof
  • The best part it’s normally under $5.00

Seriously though, it’s a game changer because you can layer the mascara on a few times and still come out with zero bulky build-up so yep I’m in love!

Until next time,

Stay Gorgeous!

Inspirational Monday

It’s Monday ya’ll! (there I go showing my southern side any who) Today’s inspiration happened from an event  I attended last night. I met on of my favorite you-tube vloggers Taren Guy at Lov and Learn your Natural Hair Atlanta. This tour is designed to help women to live their best lives, have confidence in themselves and their hair.  Taren’s is such an inspiration to me.  When she started making videos about her hair struggles, products that she loved, and  things she learned while being natural it gave me the confidence to be natural. If you are a follower her video tutorials you can see her hair journey and how this has given so many people hope with natural hair. It is amazing to me how she has taken this platform and it has become a career and an avenue to touch so many lives including mine.

Taren said something to me last night that rings true to my life experience. I entered a contest that she was offering and there was a mix up and she did not receive my entry. When it was time to win she stated that no one had entered the contest and I  boldly stood up and stated  I was the entered and there was a mistake. She said to me “wow you are persistent” and i said “yep”! This is how I live my life with God already win (internally) before I have won (externally). This was not always the case for me and there was a definite path God took me down to get me to a place of confidence in him.

Some of you are thinking to yourself do I have a gift and how do I find out what it is?

YES you have a special and unique gift that no one else has on the planet and you will be happiest when you use your gift to serve others.

How do you find your special talent:

Ask:

  • What do others say you are good at
  • What did you dream about as a child
  • Look for patterns from your childhood dreams and your current interest to find your talents

Seek:

  • Take an inventory day: to think about all the things  you are naturally good at
  • What makes you smile what comes easily to you: (your gift is related to this)
  • make a dream journal and see yourself living your dream life
  • Read books related to finding your dream

Knock:

  • Try one of your dreams volunteer or intern doing one of your interest
  • Do an informational interview with a company you are interested in.
  • Start NOW! Even if you fail you should you will learn in the process.
  • Help someone else with their BIG dream

Recommended books for finding your dream:

Flaxseed gel Product Review

Having Natural Hair is a bit like having a boyfriend. Sometimes you are in love and sometimes you so over it.  This summer I was over it! I was nearly convinced that I need a perm.  It is super hot in Atlanta and my naturally soft hair with temperatures in the 90’s my hair was in  frizz city. Then I came across a review from Tia Patterson of BeeUitfullyMade. Tia is  a YouTube Vlogger  that I love. She talked about using Flaxseed gel in her wash-n-go and I tried it…….aww love a 1st sight! My hair is so much better with just this one product.  I have used the gel to do twist outs, braid outs and flat twist I am so pleased with the results. I forgot to mention the results are better for me than any store-bought gels.  With the gel my hair is  frizz free, super defined, and no flakes! Tia thank you for changing my life and keeping my hair natural!

I would recommend making it in small batches because this a natural product with no preservatives you must keep it refrigerated. I also use the product within a week of making so that it doesn’t spoil.

Tools for Recipe

2 tablespoons of Flaxseed (i buy mine from Whole-Foods)

1 cup and half of water

2 teaspoons your favorite oil (olive, grape seed, sunflower)

a few drops of essential oils of your choice for scent (tea tree, sweet almond, lavender)***** optional

fine mesh strainer or cut off pantyhose

Empty container

Directions

Place 1 1/2 cups of water to a pot and raise the temperature to medium high heat. When the water reaches a light boil add the flaxseed cook for about 10-15mins  you will see a frothy type gel begin to form.  Next take the mixture and strain it thru your fine mesh strainer or the pantyhose into your empty container add your oils of choice (olive and essential oil) stir the oils and gel together now it’s ready to use. Place in refrigerator when you are done.

Until Next time,

Inspirational Monday

Inspirational Monday

New confession I am in my mid-thirties and I am not where I expected to be in my personal life. I have always dreamed of a life with a husband that loved me and children and that hasn’t happened yet. I had dealt with all kinds of emotions regarding this there are times when I had strong faith times when I was angry.  Recently I have decided I was disappointed not in myself but with God. I was doing my part and this was his fault! Why would God answer my prayers in other areas and not in this area? Why would he give me the desire to be a wife/mother and not fill it. Is God keeping up with my birthdays I will be 36 years old soon do I even have eggs left? This was not only unfair but it was not what I deserved.  I am the girl next door; a good girl, a sweet girl, the girl you bring home. I lack nothing I can cook, I have a career success, I have a super cute curvy figure, I’m beautiful inside and out and most importantly I know I would make an excellent wife.  I have been so angry with God. I felt like it’s his fault.

One day I just broke down and I was so over my relationship with God I did not want to deal with it anymore. I stopped believing that God could answer my prayers for a family. I called my mom and told her I give up! No more thought of children, a husband no more dating I was done! In the breaking process  I expressed my feelings honestly and openly with God.  I started seeing my life from a different standpoint. I saw where stuffed my feelings in food, sex, being overly busy and blocking people I love out of my life. This is where I saw the real problem….the problem was me.

I few days later these were my thoughts in a morning prayer

Growing up spiritually,,,,, I asked God to help me to see the value of my singleness.. I saw no value in a life without children or a husband because that was my only dream as a child. I have always seen my career as a bonus, a way to make money and keep my life busy until my real career started my family. In thinking about the source of my dysfunction in relationships with the opposite sex I wanted to find out why I allowed myself to connect to people who did not meet my standards. While I was getting dressed God spoke to me about understanding who my enemies are in my life. I am a peaceful person I said “God I have no enemies” then he revealed to me who my true enemies are and how to defeat them. I kept hearing God say “In the presence of my enemy….You treat me to a feast, while my enemies watch. You honor me as your guest, and you fill my cup until it overflows. “(Psalms 23:5 CEV)

I then examined my life and found my enemies Doubt, fear, and lack. These fools have been working overtime lately trying to make me to give up on my family dream. I was sure that I needed to believe God for another dream and be happy with only what I had in front of me. As I was meditating on Ps, 23:5 I saw how my prepared table was waiting for me. It is God’s pleasure to make a mockery out of the predictions of my enemies. It pleases him to fulfill the desires of my heart and the good work he started in me. I begin to laugh at the process knowing that because the pressure is so strong I have to be super close right now to manifestation. Now I have confident assurance of his Love and i have so much Joy. I see the value of the freedom that I have access to and I clearly see the value of increasing the intimacy I have with God. I see where I can be a better daughter, sister and friend and because of the gifts of love that I have with people in my life. I see the joy of the process.

Until Next time,

I have had natural hair for a little over a year now.  I am that girl that randomly talks to strangers about their natural hair journey and what products that they use.  I am also a self-professed product junkie. I have tried so many products and I have learned a thing or two in the process.

Inspirational Mondays

Inspiration Monday

Monday’s are hard for so many people because so many of us do what we have to do not  what we dream of. So on Monday’s I will do my best to inspire you into greatness! My first inspirational story is features one of my favorite people in the world my sister Regina “Ginee” Scott. I love this girl so much she constantly inspires me to do more and love more. I always tell people she is the perfect sister and the one of my dreams I am blessed to have her in my life.

Why does Ginee inspire me? She is exactly the sister that I prayed for. I have two great brothers but growing up I always wanted a baby sister. After years of asking my parents about this with no luck I had given up on my dream. My mom was done having children and I was 13 years old so I thought my dream was over. But to our family’s surprise my mom became pregnant in her late 30’s. My sister when she was born she was definitely an unexpected blessing to our family. As a child my sister has always had a strong determination for success she believed in her dreams and I love that.  When she was four years old we were playing in the backyard she said” I am going to graduate from UGA”.  I said “ok go for it”.  I am not sure if she knew what graduate meant at four years old but nevertheless in her mind it was already done.

As she grew up Ginee she surrounded herself with everything UGA and the dream started to grow from that point on she always said “I am going to UGA.” When it was time to apply to college she was confident that she would be accepted to UGA and so was our family. She had good grades, she was a leader at school there was never a second thought of her not getting in. But that did not happen she was not accepted it was hurtful and devastating to her to not get into the college of her dreams.   What I love about my sister is she had a plan for her success. For the 1st two years she attended smaller colleges and kept the dream of UGA in her heart. After her second year at a smaller school she was accepted to her dream school UGA.  This December she will graduate from UGA with a B.S. in Psychology and a 3.5 GPA. She inspires me to never give up and to keep your dreams in focus I am so proud of her and I know she will accomplish much more in the future.

So if you have a dream this is what I have learned about dreams. The dream is free but the work to bring it to pass is real!   Here are my Dream Development tips:

  • Write you dream down as if you have already achieved it.
  • Keep the dream in focus  no matter what you see happening in front of you (my sister always saw herself graduating from UGA)
  • No matter what don’t let go! Expect the challenges to come because this tests your faith in your dream.  Don’t let situations talk you out of what you believe.
  • Last believe that you can live the life that God has called you to! Dream so big that it leaves a legacy for others to be inspired too.

Starting Fresh

I’m Danita a beautiful 35-year-old woman with a secret…..I’m dyslexic. My whole life I tried to hide it but Dyslexic always reared its ugly head. Dyslexia has made me feel stupid, embarrassed, frustrated and fearful I have decided to come out of the closet and face the fear. So after long battle I have come to accept yup “I’m dyslexic and I have no shame.”  I have a mild form of dyslexia and it affects my spelling and word placement in the writing process. So I’m thinking to myself why am I starting blog???? It’s to push past my fear of writing with a learning disability. I have decided that mistakes are sexy and perfect people are boring!  Now that I have confessed …sigh… (I feel better) and I want to do what I do best empower others. My goal for this blog is to bring light and love to those who are dyslexic. So this brings me to the best part of this post what does a Dyslexic blogger write about…..my top interest are makeup/makeup tutorials, beauty product reviews, inspirational messages, and love. Just to challenge myself to plan to post content 2 times a week (please believe me I’m scared but ready)
